One year has gone: the world has changed and so have we. We do not know what the new world will look like after this crisis, but we certainly know how digital innovations can help us to reimagine what the “New Normal” should look like in a post Covid-19 world. Now is the moment to build a new and better world, with the help of digital technologies, with the help of ENGINEERING.

We would like to share with you our view of the current situation, our experiences of how we have reacted as an organization, and of how we are helping our partners to restart and to build their New Normal.

PART ONE: BIO-SURVEILLANCE

In February 2020, the first COVID case unveiled in Italy. One of the most impacted Region raised the need to “find correlations” among existing datasets. In a few days, ENGINEERING released the first beta version accessible by thousands of GPs, as well as the government task force. One year later, the system covers 15 million inhabitants and extends to vaccinations.

PART TWO: CONTACT TRACING

Right after the deployment in real life of our bio-surveillance platform, we carried out an innovation project funded by public funds under EIT Digital on an innovative token-based contact tracing system, alternative to the APPs that had already demonstrated not to fit the purposes in the real life.

PART THREE: COVID PASS

Already in May 2020, we started imagining how digital innovations would have played a fundamental role in moving towards the so called “new normal. Again, thanks to the participation to the EIT Digital funding programme, we worked on a research project for a “check-in” management system to monitor and mitigate COVID effects while enabling cross border mobility
